So, I need some advice...
Ladies and Gentlemen, Friends and Companions, Geeks and Nerds,
I am looking for a new laptop, and as is the fashion of the times I turn to LJ to see what this "community" feels of the current laptops and learn if anyone has sage advice regarding best brands.

The specs I am considering are:

  • Dual Core processor with > 1GHz clock speed
  • 1GB or better RAM
  • 15.4" LCD screen
  • NVIDIA or better graphics card
  • 120GB Hard Drive (5400RPM or better)
  • DVD+-R drive
  • OS: Will probably be dual booted with Ubuntu Linux and XP Pro
  • 3 or more USB ports
  • VGA and S-video output
  • integrated SD card reader (optional, but nice)
  • Less than $1000
  • So, what do you all think?

Don't forget that as a Cornell employee you still get to use the educational discount at the Cornell Store.

Hmm, well, my Dell Inspiron is nice to me and doesn't give me the Blue Screen O'Doom. Other than that I haven't much to offer you in the way of laptop wisdom, but good luck in your shopping!

I think you used a bunch of words and acronyms and I have no F-ing clue what they mean.

My computer is grey.
